If you happen to be around the Arts Precinct, we suggest you to visit NGV. As usual the NGV hosts its permanent collection ranging from Australian to European art, but it is a good idea to keep updated with their seasonal exhibition.
This time of the year, there are some interesting temporary exhibitions that we can recommend.
This duo fashion artists based in Amsterdam is having their works displayed at NGV for the first time ever. This avant-garde duo has a radical concept of 'wearable art', which intrigues the audience every time because their works are rather brave and bold.
And as always, NGV prepares a great kids section for this special exhibition where the kids can experiment on Viktor&Rolf style, keeping everyone even your little one comes out of the exhibition feeling inspired.
Semicircular Space by Jeppe Hein
A work by contemporary Danish artist, Jeppe Hein, fills the hall of NGV as soon as you enter the building. The work blurs reality and perception, making you feel like you are in a maze.
NGV Architecture Commission by M@ Studio Architects
There is something going on in the backyard of NGV where an installation of a carwash resembling a real carwash in Blackburn takes place. A playful reinvention and a bold representation of the suburbia, this installation titled "Haven't you always wanted...?" is a gathering place over spring and summer where people can enjoy talks, music performances and simply enjoying the outdoor.
Krimper is one of those cafes in Melbourne that only locals will ask you to meet at. The thing is, this cafe is so hidden, it probably is mistaken as one of the warehouse doors on Guildford Lane in the past. However, Krimper has been around for three years now and the number of people calling the cafe to ask where it exactly is, has now reduced. These days the old-world-feel cafe is packed with office workers having meetings or locals getting their brunch fix.
When you walk in, there is definitely a strong old world character that sets the mood. Near the entrance, there is an old sofa, which would be the oldest furniture in the whole building that was acquired from the existing building. In the middle of the cafe, they put the building’s existing elevator cage which now is used as a more private seating area. To honour history of the building (which back then was a sawmill), the cafe is then named Krimper, after the owner’s name.
We spoken with Krimper’s head barista, Kohei, to find out more about this interesting cafe. When you come here to get your caffeine dose of the day, expect beans from Proud Mary and Maker. Proud Mary’s bean is used for their whites and Maker for their blacks, which keeps changing every week. If you’re not having coffee, you can always have Mork’s hot chocolate or Krimper’s matcha latte.
The menu changes every season, utilising the best ingredients available. One of our favourite menus at Krimper is their Bao-nedict, which essentially is braised pork with spinach and mushroom on one of those Chinese buns called mantou, topped with Hollandaise sauce. However, they have other dishes on the board that keeps changing that keeps you away from boredom in having standard brunch dishes.
This rustic cafe on Guildford Lane is definitely a unique place to try when you are in Melbourne. Ask one of our staff if you need direction to go there. Krimper is one of Melbourne’s best kept secret when it comes to cafe for sure.

Melbourne Spring Fashion Week 26 August - 2 September 2016 At various locations
If you have been in Melbourne for a while, you have probably been to Stokers. They have been around since 1977 in their previous location in Ivanhoe. Famous as a destination for late night pancake dessert and coffee, Stokers is definitely a memorable place for night owls. The old building was homely and full of character making it popular with students and couples looking for a late night dessert destination. The centerpiece of the room was the red open fireplace making it an ideal place to enjoy pancakes and a hot drink.
Now Stokers has come closer to our place in South Melbourne, which make it really accessible from Mono at Platinum apartments. Their South Melbourne location has been around since 2014 with an updated concept, but still keeping the old soul intact. We came over to chat with Robin and find out more about what Stokers has to offer.
Robin always greets his customers warmly, like when we came over. He described himself simply as a guy who really loves pancake! He has been in hospitality industry for his whole life and Stokers is definitely his passion for life.
When you come to Stokers, be sure to try their savoury and sweet pancake. We had a try of their chicken and corn pancake for the savoury one and their Monkey Business for the sweet one. Both is a winner, but for those who have a sweet tooth, you will definitely love Stokers’ Monkey Business. A thin pancake - Stokers style - filled with chunky mashed banana and nutella, you simply can’t go wrong with this one. Also try their famous pancake chips, a great balance of sweet and savoury snack made from their iconic pancake! Not forgetting to mention that Stokers also make great coffee and a winning chai latte.
If you are feeling a bit adventurous, be sure to check with them about their secret menu. One time it can be a banana fritter wrapped in pancake, next day it can be something else. They guys at Stokers definitely know how to keep things exciting!
Between 3-6pm, they usually close to prepare for their evening service. Lights are dimmed, tune is on but you can still order your favourite pancake from the day. The ambiance is perfect for a small group, dinner for two or a late night chat with your friends over a pancake chips and comforting chai latte.
Since Robin has been in South Melbourne for some time know, he surely knows his way around. We asked him what is the next best thing in South Melbourne after Stokers and he said “Salon de Sushi!” where he would enjoy his sushi dinner or quick bites for lunch.
Stokers is definitely a memorable place where relationships grow over great plates of food. Their food is rather comforting and we especially recommend it if you are staying around the area.
