If you come to Melbourne and you have local friends, then most probably they will recommend you to go to Padre for coffee. We love to go to their South Melbourne Market shop, but did you know that they have just recently opened a new shop in the city? As we have a couple of places in the city, we love to recommend Padre to our guests as they sum up Melbourne’s coffee scene rather well. We came over and chatted with Sam O’Neil to know more about Padre and what makes their coffee so good.
In 2007, Padre was born at the Brunswick East Project where they roasted, brewed and served their coffee under one roof. Reminiscing what the coffee scene was like back then, Melburnians surely were not as enthusiast about coffee as they are today. However, with the support of local community, Brunswick East Project became the foundation for Padre to expand themselves into the four shops they run today.
Fast forward to nine years later, Padre has a sweet compact shop tucked in one of the most iconic arcades in Melbourne, the Royal Arcade. If you are looking for a laid back sip… don’t come at around 9-10am in the morning as the queue is building up with CBD white collar workers making excuses to get out from their office! The ambiance is warm and cool at the same time. You can see Sam is serving his customers at the most genuine manner with laid back attitude, chatting with the regulars and getting to know his new customers. Tell you what, Padre people are known to be some of the friendliest guys in Melbourne’s coffee scene. Once you talk to them, it feels like you have known them forever! It is just an attitude that we appreciate so much because we sometimes just need a friend to talk to, don’t we?
The shop serves delicious brews along with puns that go on all day long. The tunes playing in the background are the likings of Miles Davis, James Brown and EMEFE - just to name a few artists to lift up your mood. Pastries from Loafer Bread Bakery are served here to accompany that famous Daddy’s Girl blend from Padre.
If you are coming to Melbourne for a short visit, coming to Padre in Royal Arcade might be a good option. Here you can get bags of freshly roasted beans, a wonderful selection of brewing equipment and you can treat yourself for a single origin coffee too. At Padre, you can be sure that they will brew you the coffee that they know is best and they are devoted to the education and information that will help their customers to get the best out of every cup.
So go on, come and visit Sam at Padre in Royal Arcade and ask him all the questions you want to know about your cup or coffee. Tell Sam that you are staying at Mono Apartments and you will become best friends all of a sudden! You might come home with bags of beans, a bit of more knowledge and few friends made.
